Circus

Once, when I was a teenager, my father and I standing in line to buy tickets to the circus. Finally, there was only one family between us and the counter ticket.

This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all apparently under the age of 12. You can tell they don't have much money.

Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children were respectable, all those standing in line, two-and-two behind their parents, holding hands. They excitedly blubbering about clowns, elephants and other documents that they would see at night.

One can feel the circus had never been before. It promised to be a high point of their young lives. Father and mother was at the head of the pack, standing proud as could be.

Mother kept her husband's hand, look at him as if to say, "you're my Knight in shining armor."

He smiles and sola in pride, looking at her as if in reply, "You got that right."

Ticket lady asked her father how many tickets as he wished. He said proudly, "I will buy eight children tickets and two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus."

Ticket lady quoted price. The man's wife, let go of his hand, his head had fallen, and his lip started to quiver. His father pressured a little closer and asked "how much you said?"

Ticket lady again quoted price. The man does not have enough money.

How he would turn and tell his eight kids that he did not have enough money to take them to the circus? See what is going on, my dad put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a bill of $ 20 and released it on the ground. (We were not rich in any sense!)

My father reached, picked up the sheet, tapped the man on the shoulder and said, "Excuse me, sir, this fell out of his pocket."

The man knew what is going on. He wasn't begging for a handout, but surely appreciated the help of an desperate, heartbreaking, embarrassing situation. He looked straight into my father's eyes, took my dad hand in both of his, squeezed on the $ 20 Bill, and with his upper lip, quivering and a tear running down his cheek, he replied, "thank you, thank you, sir. It really means a lot to me and my family. "

My father and I went back to our car and drove home. We don't go to the circus at night, but we don't go without.
